APPLEBY CHURCH HALL
On Tuesday October 9th at 7.00 pm Dr Michael Tellis will give us his
knowledge of how Swepstone gained aid to improve their Church Hall. All
village organisations—and other interested village people—are invited
to this meeting. From the meeting we hope to take your concerns on board
that will hopefully lead to much needed improvements.

CHURCH GRAVEYARD
On behalf of the village, and in particular those who regularly visit
the graveyard, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to those who
willingly give their time to maintain the graveyard in such a good state.
It is a credit to them and their efforts do not go unnoticed. Thank you.

The A.G.M. will be held on Wednesday October 3rd at the Church
Hall at 2.30 pm. This is the time to speak your piece and/or become a
committee member and make suggestions, in the nicest possible way, of
course. The meeting will be followed by ‘Happy Memories’. Doris and
Nora will be our hostesses.

Many thanks to all those who helped and to
the people who attended our afternoon tea/games. The children had a happy
time and we raised £130.00.

APPLEBY MAGNA WITH MEASHAM SCOUT GROUP
The third weekend in October will be a very exciting time for the Group
as we take part in the Jamboree On The Air. All of our members will have
the chance to use radios to speak to some of the
25 million Scouts in 200 countries worldwide. We will also be
contacting them via the Internet. Additional activities will be a hike,
information hunt, barbecue and camp fire. There will be an open session
for the public between 2 pm and 4 pm on Saturday October 20th. It
doesn’t matter whether you are 5, 55 or 105, whatever your age, come
along to our HQ next to the caravan site in Measham Road, Appleby Magna
and have a go or just watch.
We will again be organising the Appleby Magna village bonfire on Saturday
November 3rd at The Black Horse starting at 6.30 pm.
So come along for a big bonfire, great fireworks and some fun.
We will be celebrating the Scout Group’s 40th Anniversary next year
starting off with an event in Measham which is the oldest part of our
Scout group.

HEDGEHOGS PRE SCHOOL
On Tuesday October 23rd we have our
photographer coming to the Church Hall between 9.30 am and 11.30 am.
Everyone is welcome to come along to have their photograph taken. You do
not have to attend playschool to come. If you have a baby or school
children you would like photographed, please turn up between those times.
There is no charge and they make ideal Christmas presents.

FRIENDS OF SIR JOHN MOORE SCHOOL
The Friends of Sir John Moore School are a group of volunteers who
organise events to raise funds to purchase equipment for the school. We
are holding our Annual General Meeting on Thursday October 4th at 8

Alison Thorp
Alison has been accepted for training as a Reader in the Church of
England. Alison’s training will last two years. We are delighted at this
new step for her and look forward to her new ministry amongst us.
“Building Bridges” Weekend
Saturday 29th
2-4 pm Appleby School—Fun, games and Christian teaching for 5-11 year
olds led by Ruth Wills of Scripture Union.
7-9 pm The Rectory, Appleby—Food, fun and Christian teaching for
11-14 year olds led by Paul Shepherd of Ashby Youth for Christ.
7.30 pm Homes around the Parish—Supper parties with an informal
chance to think about the Christian faith.

Alpha Course
You may have heard of this from friends or seen the programmes on ITV.
Through a shared meal, a video and discussion we shall explore the
Christian faith. The course will begin in October. If you are interested

Church Bus
For the special United Service on Sunday September 30th there will be a
free bus which will travel the five villages of the parish collecting and
returning all who would like to attend the service. Pick-up times are as
follows:-

Tots’ Praise.
Tots’ Praise is open to all under 5’s and their mums/carers. We
will be singing songs, introducing stories from the Bible and enjoying
activities together, followed by our usual cup of tea. We will meet on
Wednesday October 3rd at 2 pm at Swepstone Church Hall.
Mothers’ Union
The morning meeting will be on Wednesday October 10th after Holy
Communion at Swepstone Church Hall. This will be a coffee morning for the
Mothers’ Union 125th Anniversary and the subject will be DIY favourites.
On Wednesday October 24th there will be an outing to Woodlands Garden
Centre commencing at 2.30 pm. The prayer group will meet at the home of
Sally Hicks, 44 Church Street on Tuesday October 23rd at 10.00 am.
On August 9th members from Appleby joined a coach from the deanery to
travel to Leicester Cathedral to attend the 125th celebration of Mothers’
Union. A pageant was presented depicting Mothers’ Union through the ages
from 1876 and a truly uplifting service was enjoyed by all. |
