Appleby Magna Parish Council

Appleby Magna parish covers Appleby Magna and Appleby Parva.  Among other things, the Parish Council has responsibility for allotments and the recreation ground.  Its other main role is communicating village opinion to the District Council and other bodies.  The Parish is always consulted on planning applications.

North West Leicestershire District Council

The District Council is based in Coalville.  The district is divided into wards, each of which has one or more councillors.  We are in Appleby Ward which covers Appleby Magna, Appleby Parva, Stretton en le Field, Chilcote, Snarestone, Swepstone and Newton Burgoland.

We have one councillor, elected every four years.

District council responsibilities include planning applications, council housing, refuse collection, parks and recreation facilities etc.  For services and initial complaints you should contact the Council offices, but if you have any major complaints or difficulties, make sure your local councillor knows about them too.

Leicestershire County Council

The County Council is based in County Hall at Glenfield.   The county is divided into divisions - we are in Ibstock & Appleby Division.

The county council has responsibility for education, social services, libraries and museums, trading standards, highways, public transport within the county, strategic planning and some major planning applications, and footpaths.  Contact Leicestershire County Council if you have complaints or queries about heavy lorries, buses, road … but also make sure your County Councillor is aware if you think there are major problems.

Parliament

Our Member of Parliament is David Taylor.  He can be contacted via his constituency office, who will also have details of local surgeries where you can speak to your MP personally.  David Taylor was voted Back Bencher of the Year for 2007 - voted by his peers in both the House of Commons and House of Lords.
