Changes to our Bus Service
The number 7 bus route from Appleby to Ashby de la Zouch and Nuneaton is changing on 1st September, and the result will be a longer journey time to Nuneaton, with fewer buses. The number of buses from Appleby to Ashby is reduced from 7 to 6 per day. If you want to shop in Nuneaton, the journey will take an hour and a half - 20 minutes longer. The changes take place on 1st September.
The new timetable is now available on the County Council site - follow the link on our Services page in the Transport section.
Church Hall Roof
Work has started on the hall roof, as anyone living in the village will have noticed! The work is costing £37,500, and Veolia Environmental Trust are contributing £29,109 of that (through the Landfill Communities Fund). The rest is made up from local community donations and smaller grants. The hall will be open again in September.
The hall was built in 1845 and was originally a Church of England school. In 1962, the village congregation bought it from Leicester Diocesan Board of Education.
Change All Round
Not only does Appleby have a new MP following the general election (see his maiden speech), but we also have a new Chair of the Parish Council. Cllr John Quimby, who has served as chairman for over 10 years, stood down at the Annual Parish Council meeting on Thursday 6th May in favour of Cllr Paul Hemmerdinger. Cllr Ken Colver remains as Deputy Chair.
Congratulations to Appleby & Measham Scouts
Our local scout group has won a Green Footprints award from the district council for helping to make North West Leicestershire a cleaner, greener place to live. The scouts have reduced their carbon emissions and costs by making their headquarters more energy efficient. The work included insulated walls and ceilings, installing secondary glazing to the windows and installing low energy lights. All the scouts and their families were involved in the work. Well done!
The Scout group are also looking for more leaders - no previous training required. <More information>
Parish Records - April Update
In February we published the Appleby Parish Registers, 1572 to 1906, in a searchable text format. Now we have filled a gap in these records, between 1725 – 1731, from the Bishop's Transcripts of this time. Together, these documents contain the records of baptisms, marriages and burials at St Michael's Church and provide an invaluable resource for anyone researching their family history in Appleby Magna.

Appleby Magna website is run by Information Byway, a not-for-profit organisation, and is maintained by volunteers. Since 1998 the site has published regular news about the village and put together extensive information about its history.
We welcome contributions, but are unable to answer individual questions relating to family history. You can use the Appleby Discussion Board, which has been operating for some time as a Family History information board. Here you can ask questions or discuss any aspect of Appleby Magna's society or history, so if you haven't seen it already do have a look at it
