How Wet was Appleby in 2002?

Total rainfall in 2002 was 29.53", lower than 2001's 30.04".   That's another small improvement on 2000 when 34.24" of rain fell on Botts Lane - the highest for at least ten years. The annual average over the previous nine years was 25.13". 

Taking Appleby Magna as being approx 1 mile x 1 mile the total tonnage of rain falling on Appleby Magna in 2002 was approx 1.9 million tons. No wonder the brook is always running!
