Appleby Records

Thanks to the hard work of Chris Bee, Appleby now has a comprehensive set of records for family historians and others interested in village families.

Parish Records - transcriptions of the records of Baptism, Marriage and Burial from St Michael's and All Angels church from 1572 to 1906

Census transcripts - from the censuses between 1841 and 1911

Each census has taken Chris 30-50 hours to read and transcribe, and in some places the handwriting is not easily deciphered. We are very grateful for all this hard work, and we doubt if there are many other villages which have so much information readily available on the web.

The records are all in pdf files so you will need Acrobat or a similar pdf reader to open them.

In addition to Chris' work we also have the Parish Records of 1570, transcribed by Richard Dunmore. His analysis of these even earlier documents is presented together with an image of the original
